Stargazing in the Sinai desert

Twenty minutes inland from the hotel strip, the light pollution disappears and the Milky Way becomes visible to the naked eye. The valley walls block light from every direction, so your eyes adjust fully within about twenty minutes of arriving. Jupiter, Saturn and Venus are visible for much of the year, and the Perseid meteor shower peaks in mid-August. Clearest from October to April, darkest in new-moon weeks.

Bedouin dinner under the stars

Mandi - rice and slow-cooked meat - is the centrepiece, alongside mixed grills from the open fire, mezze of hummus, baba ganoush and tahini, fresh salads and pickles, and feteer and flatbread baked in front of you on the saj. Bedouin tea with mint and sage, Arabic coffee with cardamom. Vegetarian and vegan options with notice. Served at low tables on carpets, under open sky, inside a rock amphitheatre with natural echo acoustics.

Camel rides and the desert at sunset

Short camel rides through the dunes run throughout the evening, at sunset or after dark. Guests who arrive before sunset catch the light on the valley walls - the best time for photographs.
